This week our team at Baldwin Architectural Group had the privilege of breaking ground on an exciting new project in Rockmart, GA. The Cottages at Rockmart, scheduled to be completed by the end of 2019, had been in the works for the past 7 years. With this week’s groundbreaking, we’re finally seeing our patience pay off in a big way! Project leaders, City of Rockmart officials, local business owners, and community members all joined us to mark the occasion and usher in a new era of top notch senior care that will be made available to families in North Georgia.
As the firm of choice Baldwin Architectural Group had a direct hand in taking the vision for a “household model/culture change” concept for senior living into a reality. That means in addition to onsite skilled nursing and rehab/therapy services, residents will benefit from having specially trained “companions” available in each cottage. To provide this “body and soul” type of care for residents, we had to take a unique approach in our architectural design. For example, each cottage is intentionally built to house only 14 to 15 residents with private rooms arranged around common areas like a fireplace, dining room, living room, and kitchen. This gives residents far more convenient access to meals and community engagement. The long, ominous corridors that are typical of most nursing homes and assisted living facilities are non-existent in cottage life. Instead, even ambulatory residents will be able to move easily into common areas due to their close proximity. By intentionally building around this new concept in senior living, our design can provide residents with memory loss and dementia a more enjoyable living atmosphere in each cottage.
Upon completion, there will be 8 free standing cottages that each house 14-15 residents and come with a fully equipped kitchen, furnished living room, dining room and laundry room. Additionally, residents will have full access to a luxurious “Town Center” which will feature a chapel, movie room, meeting room, snack bar, beauty shop, and spa with a whirlpool! Residents will also be able to gather for pot luck dinners, holiday events, and special gatherings.
We are very proud of our involvement with this project and cannot wait to see its completion. Working with a development team that was far more concerned with increasing quality of life over profit margins was very important to us. We are so excited we were able to partner with an excellent group of people who wanted to make residents’ later life experience a high priority and took a forward thinking approach to realize this dream.
