The Milltown Lofts in Cabbagetown, GA

Background

In 2001, we were in search of a location for our loft-style homes project to provide a new brand of intown living in Atlanta. We wanted to find a part of Atlanta’s “ITP” that had no lack of character and afforded residents breathtaking views of the Atlanta skyline. Milltown Lofts sprang up in the Cabbagetown neighborhood in 2003 and because of its location, amenities, and charming characteristics, it sold out faster than any other in-town, residential area we worked on.

Our Idea of Lofts - From the Ground Up

Since “lofts” were just starting to take shape on Atlanta’s scene in 2001, we were still helping define what that meant for Atlanta. Lofts have typically been re-purposed warehouses or buildings that still retain many of the characteristics of the original building itself. Often times high ceilings, brick walls, exposed ductwork, and stained cement floors stand out as particulary “lofty” features. Since Milltown Lofts was not a conversion but instead a brand new project, we specifically set out to do something different by recreating loft style homes from the ground up with our own unique design. The results were fantastic and the appeal was enough to draw a new generation of urban dwellers who wanted the charm of a loft condo while still being the first to live in their particular unit.

Unique Design Characteristics

Let There Be Light

By designing our very own loft style units we were not limited to any existing structure that other repurposed conversions face. For example, we were able to over come the challenge of transitioning long dark corridors into a well lit welcoming environment. We were able to add enough windows to allow in plenty of light for our residents as well as roof decks for the upper units that allowed residents to have a glass of wine with some friends on a hot Atlanta night with an even more inspiring 360 degree view of Atlanta’s skyline.

Young Professionals and Rooftop Decks

Cabbagetown is an eclectic neighborhood in Atlanta that underwent a revitalization in the early 2000’s. Atlanta residents were drawn back into the city during this time and so Milltown arrived on the scene just as professionals were coming back into town to be close to work and “the action” of city life.

The roof decks give residents are particularly exciting connection to the city while the courtyards, clubhouse, and pool keep allow them an intimate community within which to unwind after a long day of work.
